Wuding
Wuding chickens are a regional Chinese chicken type associated with Wuding in Yunnan, a province with many locally adapted poultry populations. The label is usually understood in a farm and food context rather than as a uniform show breed. Birds may be selected for village performance, moderate body size, local meat quality, and the ability to handle upland management where feed resources and climate can vary sharply by season.
Smallholders and conservation breeders should treat Wuding as a local genetic resource, not just a place name attached to any chicken. Useful management includes range access where safe, secure night housing, attention to predator pressure, and breeding choices that keep vigor and regional type. Egg numbers, growth, and survival should be judged within the local system rather than against industrial hybrids. When birds are moved outside their home area, adaptation should be checked through actual flock performance rather than assuming every line will thrive in the same conditions.
