Wumeng Silkie
Wumeng Silkie describes a Silkie or Silkie-like black-bone chicken associated with the Wumeng mountain region of southwest China. It belongs to the larger family of Chinese dark-tissued chickens, where silky feathering, dark skin, dark bones, and local adaptation may be valued together. Compared with ornamental show Silkies in many Western flocks, a Wumeng Silkie label points more strongly toward regional food, medicinal, and conservation context.
These birds should be managed with attention to both the Silkie traits and the needs of a working chicken. Soft feathering can shed water poorly, so dry shelter matters, while dark-bone breeding requires selection beyond surface color. Flocks kept for preservation should record origin and avoid casual crossing with generic bantam Silkies, since the mountain regional identity is as important as the black skin or gentle appearance.
