Yokohama Bantam
Yokohama bantams are small ornamental versions of the Yokohama type, carrying the same long-tailed outline in a more compact bird. They are kept mainly for exhibition, breeding interest, and ornamental poultry collections, not for heavy egg or meat production. Red Shouldered and White are the familiar color expectations, though availability depends on local standards and breeder lines.
Their smaller size does not remove the need for careful feather management. Yokohama bantams need dry pens, clean litter, and roosting arrangements that keep tails from constant breakage. They may suit keepers with limited space better than large fowl, but they still need protection from predators and wet ground. Breeders should select for proportion, tail quality, fertility, and liveliness without letting the birds become fragile or overly difficult to maintain. Calm handling helps young birds keep their feathering and confidence.
