Yunyang Silkie
Yunyang silkie refers to a Yunyang-associated form of silkie chicken, a type recognized by its soft hairlike feathering, dark skin in many lines, and ornamental or specialty-table associations. Because the label is regional, it should not be assumed to match every international Silkie standard. It points instead to a local Chinese strain where silky feather texture is the key identifier, while size, crest development, comb shape, and color may vary by flock.
People keeping Yunyang silkies usually value them for smallholder breeding, broody hens, exhibition interest, or heritage poultry collections. Their loose feathering gives less weather protection than tight-feathered chickens, so dry shelter and clean bedding matter in damp climates. Breeders should track whether birds consistently produce silky feathering and the body traits expected in their community, especially when stock has been crossed with ordinary village chickens or other Silkie lines.
