Zhangzhou Fighting
Zhangzhou fighting is a Chinese gamefowl label associated with Zhangzhou, a city in Fujian province, and refers to chickens historically selected for athletic build, alert carriage, and competitive male behavior. As with many regional fighting fowl, the name describes a working type more than a uniform color breed. Birds may show hard feathering, strong legs, close muscling, and a sharper outline than heavier village chickens.
Modern stewardship of Zhangzhou fighting chickens is usually about conservation, legal exhibition, cultural history, or maintaining gamefowl bloodlines without promoting illegal contests. Handling and housing require experience, especially with mature males that may not tolerate each other. Breeders should separate birds safely, document parentage, and select for health, sound feet, and stable temperament as well as traditional type. Local laws and animal welfare rules should guide any keeping or display.
