Bichon Frise
The Bichon Frise is a small companion dog from the Mediterranean barbichon family, with history tied to Tenerife, France, Belgium, and the court and circus dogs of Europe. The breed has a white, springy coat, dark eyes, a plumed tail carried over the back, and a cheerful, alert expression. Under the round show trim is a sturdy little dog rather than a fragile ornament. Mature Bichons are usually compact, square, and light enough for apartment life while still enjoying play and training.
The coat is low-shedding but high-maintenance. Regular brushing, bathing, and professional clipping keep the curls from felting, and many pet homes choose a shorter trim than the powder-puff show outline. Bichons tend to enjoy people and other gentle dogs, so long periods alone can lead to nuisance barking or anxiety in some individuals. Practical care also means dental attention, weight control, and screening lines for patellar luxation, allergies, bladder stones, and eye problems. Consistent house-training is worthwhile, as toy and small companion breeds can be slow to generalize rules.
