Bracco Italiano
The Bracco Italiano, or Italian Pointer, is a large pointing breed from Italy with roots in traditional bird hunting. It is built differently from many faster, lighter pointing dogs: substantial bone, a houndlike head, long ears, loose skin, and a deep chest give it a singular outline. Coats are short and smooth, most often white with orange or chestnut patches, ticking, or roan. In the field, the breed is valued for a ground-covering trot and methodical scent work.
Bracchi often live closely with their families and can be mild indoors, but they still need regular field exercise, long walks, and chances to use their nose. Training works best when it is patient and clear; harsh handling can dull a sensitive dog. Their ears need routine cleaning, and some individuals drool after drinking or scenting. As with other large, deep-chested breeds, owners should manage growth, conditioning, and feeding routines thoughtfully. Breeders should be willing to discuss hip and elbow evaluation, eye health, kidney concerns reported in the breed, and whether a puppy is suited for hunting, sport, or companion life.
