Braque d'Auvergne
The Braque d'Auvergne is a French pointing dog from the Auvergne region, especially associated with the Cantal and surrounding uplands. It is a medium-large gundog with a short black-and-white coat, often heavily ticked or roaned, and a typically dark head sometimes marked by a white blaze. Like other continental braques, it was developed to find game, point steadily, and retrieve for foot hunters rather than range far ahead like some field-trial pointers.
In homes, the Braque d'Auvergne is usually valued for a close, people-oriented temperament, but it still needs serious daily exercise and chances to use its nose. It suits hunters, active rural families, and owners interested in pointing-dog training, tracking, or field work. The coat is easy to maintain, while the hanging ears need routine checks after brush, water, or seed heads. Buyers should look for breeders who work or test their dogs and who screen for common large sporting-dog concerns such as hip problems.
