Burgos Pointer
The Burgos Pointer, or Perdiguero de Burgos, is a Spanish pointing dog from Castile and León, with Burgos Province closely tied to its history. It is a robust, medium-to-large gundog bred for hunters who wanted an honest nose, stamina, and a steady point over open fields, scrub, and stubble. The breed has a substantial head, long hanging ears, a deep chest, and a short liver-and-white coat that may be patched, ticked, or roaned. It is used for partridge and other upland birds, and many dogs also retrieve or track wounded game at a measured, methodical pace.
A Burgos Pointer fits best with people who can give it regular field work, long walks, or scent-based training rather than relying on backyard exercise. The temperament is usually cooperative and attached to family, but a young dog still needs recall practice and calm exposure to livestock, roads, and gunfire if it will hunt. Short coats need little grooming, while the ears deserve routine checks after working in grass or cover. Breeders and buyers should value sound movement, working instinct, and stable character; heavily oversized or sluggish dogs lose the practical qualities that made the breed useful.
