Ca Mè Mallorquí
The Ca Mè Mallorquí is a native Mallorcan hunting dog, commonly described in English as the Majorcan or Mallorcan pointing dog. It comes from Mallorca in Spain's Balearic Islands, where local hunters selected a practical dog for finding and pointing game in dry fields, stone-walled farmland, and scrub. The breed is medium-sized, agile, and short-coated, with a plain working outline rather than the polished appearance of more internationally known pointers. Many are used on partridge and other small game, and local lines may differ in color, size, and style of work.
Because the Ca Mè Mallorquí remains a regional breed, information and puppies are often found through Mallorcan hunting and preservation circles rather than broad commercial channels. A suitable home offers regular outdoor work, patient recall training, and enough exercise to satisfy a nose-driven dog. It is not a decorative rare breed to keep idle; the traits worth preserving are stamina, biddability, and practical hunting sense. Breeders should document ancestry where possible, avoid close matings in a small population, and place pups with people who understand both pointing-dog behavior and the breed's local heritage.
