Ca Rater Mallorquí
The Ca Rater Mallorquí, often called the Majorca Ratter or Ratonero Mallorquín, is a small terrier-type dog from Mallorca in the Balearic Islands. Farmyards, shops, stables, and homes used these quick little dogs for killing rats and warning of activity around the property. The breed is compact, smooth-coated, and alert, with a sharp expression and mobile ears that suit its busy working style. Black and tan with white markings is a familiar look, but local standards and individual lines can show some variation. Compared with many toy breeds, the Ca Rater is defined more by usefulness and terrier spirit than by ornament.
In daily life it is lively, vocal when excited, and inclined to chase small animals, so secure fencing and careful introductions to pocket pets matter. Exercise needs are moderate in distance but high in engagement: games, scent work, and controlled ratting-style outlets suit the breed better than constant lap time. The short coat is simple to maintain, while dental care, nail trimming, and weight control are worth watching in a small dog. Buyers outside Mallorca may find limited availability and should be patient with reputable breeders who protect working temperament and avoid turning a hardy ratter into a fragile novelty.
