Chien Français Blanc et Noir
The Chien Français Blanc et Noir, or French White and Black Hound, is a large French pack scenthound used mainly for mounted or organized hunting. It belongs to the group of Chien Français hounds, which are kept for voice, stamina, and the ability to follow game as part of a pack. The coat is white with black patches or a black mantle, often with ticking and small tan markings on the head or legs. Long ears, a lean frame, and a serious hound expression suit a dog bred to travel for hours behind scent.
Most examples remain in working kennels rather than ordinary pet homes. They need canine company, secure runs, and conditioning that matches their size and drive; a suburban yard is rarely enough if the dog is not hunted or exercised hard. Their deep voice and single-minded nose can be difficult in close neighborhoods. Breeding choices usually center on pack manners, sound feet, endurance, and hunting ability, while companion placements require patience with recall, leash work, and confinement.
