Chien Français Blanc et Orange
The Chien Français Blanc et Orange, or French White and Orange Hound, is one of the large French pack hounds developed for scent hunting with other dogs. It is recognized by its clean white coat marked with orange or lemon-orange patches, long hanging ears, and athletic but not heavy build. Like the related white-and-black and tricolor French hounds, it was selected less for life as a household pet than for nose, voice, stamina, and cooperation during long hunts. The breed is uncommon outside France and is seldom seen away from hunting kennels.
Daily management is shaped by that pack background. These hounds usually do best with space, other compatible dogs, and handlers who understand scent-driven behavior. Secure fencing is important, because an interesting trail can override casual recall training. Feeding must support a large athlete without letting it become soft during the off-season, and feet and ears need routine attention after work. Anyone seeking one as a companion should be ready for a loud, social, energetic dog with limited breeder availability.
