Chien Français Tricolore
The Chien Français Tricolore is a large French tricolor hound bred for pack hunting, especially on larger game where stamina and a strong voice are prized. Its ancestry is tied to older French scenthound lines, and the modern dog shows the rangy outline expected of a working hound: long legs, deep chest, long ears, and a coat patterned in white, black, and tan. It is not a small tricolor beagle-type dog, but a taller, more specialized hound built to cover country with a pack.
Outside established hunting circles, the breed is rare. Kennel life, regular roadwork or field exercise, and close management of pack relationships are more typical than sofa-only companionship. A pet placement would need secure containment, tolerant neighbors, and a plan for the dog's voice and scent drive. Training should focus on handling, recall foundations, lead manners, and calm transport rather than expecting off-leash reliability in wildlife areas. Breeders generally value working soundness, feet, nose, and stable pack temperament more than decorative markings alone.
