Colombian Fino Hound
The Colombian Fino hound, or Sabueso Fino Colombiano, is a scent hound from Colombia developed from European hunting hounds brought to the region and adapted by local hunters. It is a medium-sized, athletic dog with a short coat, long ears, a strong voice, and a persistent nose used for trailing game in varied terrain. Coat colors and markings vary widely, reflecting its working background more than a narrow show-ring image.
These dogs are most often kept by hunters and rural families who value tracking ability, stamina, and pack sense. As companions, they need space to move, scent-based activity, and secure fencing because a fresh trail can override recall training. Ear care, parasite prevention, and conditioning are important for dogs working in humid or brushy country. The breed remains uncommon outside Colombia, so buyers should expect registry details and type to vary and should look for breeders who can explain working temperament as well as pedigree.
