Denmark Feist
The Denmark Feist is an American feist-type squirrel dog, not a breed from Denmark. It belongs to the loose family of small Southern United States treeing dogs developed for finding, chasing, and barking treed game until the hunter arrives. Compared with many toy or terrier breeds of similar size, a Denmark Feist is usually leggier, leaner, and more field-minded, with a short coat, sharp expression, and a strong interest in scent, sight, and movement.
People who keep this dog successfully usually value its working instincts. It needs regular running, woods time, or sport training that lets it use speed and nose, and off-leash freedom is safest in fenced or hunt-managed areas. Grooming is simple, but prey drive and a quick bark can challenge apartment life or homes with free-ranging small animals. Because feist names can describe a registered breed, a family line, or a local hunting type, it helps to ask what registry or strain is meant and to see the parents work when possible.
