Drever
The Drever is a Swedish short-legged scenthound developed from the Westphalian Dachsbracke and Scandinavian hunting lines. Its name comes from the Swedish style of driving game, where the hound follows scent steadily and gives voice so deer, hare, or fox move slowly toward the hunter. The body is long and low but sturdy, with a dense coat, hanging ears, and the white markings typical of many working hounds. In Sweden it is still closely tied to practical hunting.
As a household dog, the Drever is cheerful and persistent, with a nose that can override casual recall. Leash walking, fenced exercise areas, and scent-based activities help prevent wandering. It is not a high-speed dog, but it has real endurance and can become noisy or frustrated without work. Routine care is straightforward: keep the ears clean, the nails short, and the body lean enough to protect the back; the coat only needs occasional brushing. Breeders and hunters value sound legs, a strong voice, and a balanced temperament around people and other dogs.
