Griffon Bleu de Gascogne
The Griffon Bleu de Gascogne is a rough-coated French scenthound from the Gascony region, part of the larger Bleu de Gascogne family. Its coat looks blue because black ticking overlays white, usually with black patches, tan points, a shaggy beard, and expressive eyebrows. Bred for hare and other game, it is a medium-to-large hound with a strong nose, a carrying voice, and the endurance to hunt in rough country.
Most Griffon Bleus are kept by hunters or very active hound enthusiasts rather than as casual pets. They tend to work well with other dogs, but their scent drive and voice call for secure fencing, training, and tolerant neighbors. The wiry coat benefits from brushing and occasional tidying, while long ears need checks after wet cover or thorny ground. Outside France the breed is scarce, so prospective buyers should verify registration, health practices, and the level of hunting drive in the line.
