Löwchen
The Löwchen is a small European companion breed whose name translates to little lion dog. Its long coat is traditionally groomed into a lion trim, leaving a mane, bracelets, and plumed tail, but the underlying dog is a sturdy, lively toy companion rather than a fragile ornament. The breed appears in European companion-dog art and history, and today it is kept for sociability, expression, and close household life.
Living with a Löwchen centers on grooming, training, and daily company. The coat needs regular brushing whether kept in presentation trim or a shorter practical cut, and dental care is worth building into routine handling from puppyhood. Many are sturdy enough for normal walks, play, and small-dog sports. The breed usually enjoys training games and involvement with its people, but it should still be taught manners and confidence like any other dog. Responsible breeders watch patellas, eyes, temperament, and body soundness as carefully as coat quality.
