Lucas Terrier
The Lucas Terrier is a small British terrier developed in the twentieth century from Sealyham Terrier and Norfolk Terrier ancestry. Sir Jocelyn Lucas wanted a compact, useful terrier with less exaggeration than some show lines, suitable for country life as well as companionship. Most Lucas Terriers are low, sturdy dogs with rough coats, alert expressions, and enough terrier character to investigate, dig, and work cover when given the chance.
Lucas Terriers can be excellent house dogs for owners who enjoy terrier wit instead of trying to suppress it. Regular coat care, weight control, and sensible exercise keep the small frame comfortable, while recall and boundaries around wildlife need steady reinforcement. Because the breed is uncommon, prospective owners should ask about registry, family temperament, and whether the breeder is selecting for soundness and practical character rather than novelty alone.
