Maltese
The Maltese is a very small companion dog with a long history around the central Mediterranean and a modern identity built around its silky white coat. It is a toy breed, but not merely decorative: a good Maltese is bright, responsive, and lively enough to participate in daily household routines. The dark eyes, black nose, level topline, and flowing coat give the breed its familiar refined appearance.
Daily care for a Maltese depends heavily on coat choice. A full show coat needs careful brushing, bathing, and protection from breakage, while many pets live comfortably in shorter trims that still require regular appointments. Dental care, tear staining management, and safe handling around furniture and larger dogs are common owner concerns. Good breeders pay attention to patellas, cardiac health, eye health, and confident temperament in addition to size and coat.
