Maneto
The Maneto is a small Spanish hunting dog from Andalusia, often described as a short-legged podenco-type dog used for rabbit work in dense scrub. Its long body, shortened legs, and alert expression make it easy to distinguish from taller podencos. The breed's build is practical for pushing through low cover, where agility close to the ground can be more useful than long-distance speed.
A Maneto is not simply a lap-sized dog with a hunting label. It may have strong scent and chase instincts, a busy mind, and a need for patient recall work. Owners should manage jumping and body condition carefully because the long back and short legs can be stressed by excess weight or rough handling. In working homes, selection should focus on sound structure, nose, courage in cover, and sociable behavior with people and other dogs.
