Romanian Raven Shepherd Dog
The Romanian Raven shepherd dog, or Ciobanesc Romanesc Corb, is a very large livestock guardian dog from the southern Carpathian and sub-Carpathian areas of Romania. Corb means raven, a reference to the breed's predominantly black coat, usually with white on the chest, legs, muzzle, or tail tip. It is a massive, deep-voiced dog with strong bone and a serious guardian temperament, traditionally used to protect flocks, farmyards, and mountain households rather than to gather livestock.
Because recognition is mostly regional and specialty-based, buyers outside Romania should confirm the breeder's standards and the dogs' working background. A raven shepherd needs space, secure boundaries, and steady social exposure from puppyhood so that natural suspicion does not become unmanaged reactivity. The coat is weather-resistant but still sheds and collects debris. Giant-breed growth, joint health, and heat management deserve planning, and this is generally not a casual apartment dog or a starter guard dog.
