Russian Toy
The Russian toy is a tiny companion dog developed in Russia from English Toy Terrier-type dogs kept in Moscow and other cities. Once called the Russian Toy Terrier, it occurs in smooth-coated and long-haired varieties; the long-haired dogs have fringed ears that can look oversized on the delicate head. The breed is fine-boned, alert, and high-legged for its size, with colors such as black and tan, brown and tan, blue and tan, or shades of red depending on the standard used.
Life with a Russian toy calls for treating it as a real dog while protecting it from avoidable injury. It benefits from socialization, house-training, and polite leash habits, not constant carrying or isolation. Stairs, rough play with larger dogs, and jumping from furniture can be risky for such a small frame. Dental care is a major routine need, and responsible breeding pays attention to patellar luxation, bite quality, and sound movement. Smooth coats need little grooming; long coats require combing of the ear fringes and tail feathering.
