Segugio Dell'appennino
The Segugio dell'Appennino is an Italian scent hound from the Apennine mountains, used mainly for hunting hare on steep, broken ground. It is a rustic, medium-small cane da seguita rather than a widely exported companion breed. Dogs may be smooth or rough coated depending on line, and typical colors include fawn, black and tan, and combinations with white. The type is valued for a keen nose, practical feet, agility on slopes, and a voice that lets the hunter follow work through cover.
Most Segugi dell'Appennino are still kept by hunters, so management centers on conditioning, recall practice, and controlled exposure to game trails. They need secure kennels or fencing and do poorly with little work or exercise. Coat care is simple, but ears and pads deserve attention after days in thorny or stony country. Outside Italy, buyers should clarify which registry or club recognizes the dogs, whether the line is bred for hare, boar, or mixed work, and how the breeder evaluates temperament for home life.
