Serbian Tricolour Hound
The Serbian Tricolour Hound is a separate Balkan scenthound, not merely a color variety of the Serbian Hound. Known in Serbia as the Srpski Trobojni Gonic, it carries a black mantle over rich tan or red with clear white markings on the muzzle, chest, legs, and tail tip. The breed is medium-sized, smooth-coated, and made for persistent work on hare, fox, and wild boar in hilly or wooded country. Its voice, nose, and willingness to hunt in contact with a handler are central to type.
People keeping this hound should plan for an active, scent-driven dog that enjoys company but may ignore distractions once on a trail. Controlled exercise, tracking practice, and early leash manners are useful from puppyhood. Grooming is quick, though field dogs need routine checks for thorns, ticks, and ear irritation. Socialization helps preserve the steady character expected of a pack hound, especially in households with children or other dogs. The breed is rare in many countries, so import documentation, breeder knowledge, and evidence of sound working temperament carry real weight.
