Silky Terrier
The Silky Terrier, also called the Australian Silky Terrier in many countries, is a toy-sized terrier developed in Australia from Yorkshire Terrier and Australian Terrier ancestry. It carries a fine, glossy blue-and-tan coat and a neat, alert outline, with prick ears and a body that is small but not fragile. Despite its size, the Silky was shaped by terrier instincts, so it tends to be brisk, curious, and ready to investigate movement in the yard.
Living with a Silky Terrier means treating it like a real terrier in a small package. Regular brushing keeps the coat from tangling, and many pet owners choose a shorter trim instead of the long show presentation. Training should address barking, chasing, and door-dashing before they become habits. The breed usually enjoys walks and play but can be injured by rough handling from larger dogs or young children. Breeders planning litters commonly discuss dental care, patellar luxation, eye concerns, and Legg-Calve-Perthes disease.
