Small Međimurje Dog
The small Međimurje dog, or Mali međimurski pas, is a little-known Croatian regional dog associated with Međimurje, the northern area between the Mura and Drava rivers. It is usually discussed as a local farm and household type rather than a widely established international breed. Descriptions emphasize a small, alert, practical dog kept close to homes and yards, where it could warn of visitors, control small pests, and serve as a tough companion for families in a rural landscape.
Because the label is thinly documented outside Croatia, anyone seeking one should clarify whether the dog comes from a local breeding program, a landrace population, or a mixed farm background. Care is similar to other active small dogs: daily exercise, secure fencing, socialization with visitors and children, and basic coat maintenance according to the individual coat. It should not be treated as an ornamental toy; the useful qualities are alertness, resilience, and a sensible temperament around normal village or household activity.
