Telomian
The Telomian is a rare Malaysian village dog associated with the Orang Asli people of Peninsular Malaysia, particularly the Telom River region. It is usually described as a small to medium, lightly built dog with a short coat, wedge-shaped head, prick ears, and nimble movement. Modern accounts often mention its ability to climb ladders into raised houses, a useful trait in forest settlements where dogs lived around people but also had to fend for themselves.
Few verified Telomian lines exist outside Malaysia, and the breed has never been common in mainstream kennel circles. Anyone seeking one should expect a primitive or landrace temperament rather than a polished companion breed: alert, quick, independent, and likely to need early socialization. Secure containment matters, as does mental work for a dog that notices movement and learns by exploring. Breeding programs need careful record keeping because the population is small and the historical type is easily diluted by ordinary village-dog crosses.
