Lunkarya
The lunkarya guinea pig has a long, dense coat with a harsh, elastic texture. A frontal and cheek sweeps frame the head, while two rump rosettes help direct the coat forward. The British Cavy Council awarded Lunkarya a Full Standard in January 2025; its standard calls for corkscrew ringlets and allows any colors or markings. The European standard also includes the Lunkarya among longhaired breeds. ARBA's 2026 working standard admits Lunkarya to sanctioned shows as exhibition animals, with no eligibility for Best in Show.
Its insert specifies loose curls rather than ringlets, as well as dense coat and correctly positioned rump rosettes. The regional standards therefore differ in their desired curl presentation. Both describe a textured longhair rather than a color variety. Daily coat care helps prevent matting. For British exhibition, the curls are kept clean and unmatted with their natural corkscrew shape visible and no central parting.
