Peruvian Satin
The Peruvian satin guinea pig carries a long, flowing coat with the Peruvian's forward frontal and rump rosettes, together with satin sheen. Its hair falls over the face and around the body instead of sweeping away from the head as in a silkie or sheltie. Peruvian Satin is recognized in ARBA's Standard of Perfection for 2026 to 2030 as a separate breed from Peruvian. British Cavy Council recognition differs: its current Rare Varieties listing places Satin Peruvian among unrecognized coated satin combinations, distinct from the Full Standard smooth Satin breed.
A full coat makes daily grooming important to prevent tangles and matting. The broad curtain of hair should look clean and even, allowing both its length and reflective finish to be seen. Check the intended show's entry and coat presentation rules. The bone disease fibrous osteodystrophy has been reported in satin guinea pigs, although its cause remains unsettled.
