Moscow
The Moscow guppy is a fancy guppy strain family built around deep color that can extend from the head through the body and fins. Moscow blue is the most familiar direction, but black, green, purple, and other color lines may appear depending on the breeder's program. The name traces to lines developed and circulated through Russian and European guppy breeding. Modern Moscow guppies vary in exact shade, tail shape, and degree of full-body coverage.
Moscow guppies depend heavily on source and maintenance because they are line-bred fish. Breeders select for saturated color, strong body shape, fertility, and finnage that stays balanced as males mature. In a home aquarium, they need the same clean, stable water as other fancy guppies, with care taken to avoid fin damage in large-tailed examples. Buyers should ask whether the line breeds true, whether it is a Moscow cross, and what color faults tend to appear in the females or later generations.
