Multicolor
A multicolor guppy is selected or classified for having several visible colors rather than one dominant solid shade. The color may be distributed across the body, dorsal fin, and tail, sometimes overlapping with mosaic, delta, cobra, or tuxedo backgrounds. In show language, multicolor can carry specific expectations about color count and coverage, while in the aquarium trade it is often a broader descriptive label.
Multicolor guppies are good display fish because they show movement and contrast even in small groups. Breeders, however, have to decide what kind of multicolor they are maintaining, since random mixing can produce dull or uneven offspring. Good husbandry remains simple but exacting: stable water, varied feeding, enough space for fry, and removal of stressed or fin-damaged fish. Clear strain goals help separate intentional multicolor lines from ordinary mixed guppy batches.
