Unknown Variety
An unknown-variety guppy is a Poecilia reticulata whose variety name, strain, or color-line origin is not available. The fish may be a fancy guppy, a wild-type descendant, or a mix of several aquarium lines, but the keeper lacks enough information to assign a reliable label. This is especially common with rescues, inherited aquariums, mixed community tanks, and fry produced before adults were separated.
Using unknown variety is usually more honest than guessing from a single color patch or tail shape. Care is the same as for other guppies, but breeding plans should start with observation: note adult size, fin shape, sex ratio, health, and fry outcomes before naming a line. For sales or transfers, the label tells the next keeper that appearance and genetics may vary from one batch of offspring to the next.
