Beveren (UK)
In the British rabbit fancy, the Beveren is a large domestic rabbit breed of Belgian origin, first associated with the town of Beveren near Antwerp and later shaped by British exhibition breeders. It has a long mandolin outline, broad hindquarters, upright ears, and a dense glossy coat. Blue was the historic colour, while British standards and clubs also work with black, brown, lilac, and white lines; the white is typically blue-eyed rather than red-eyed.
Keepers usually treat Beverens as roomy utility-fancy rabbits: they need accommodation sized for a large breed, good ventilation, and flooring that protects hocks under a substantial body. Their coat is short enough for ordinary grooming, but show animals are conditioned carefully to keep colour even and fur clean. Breeders balance exhibition type with fertility, mothering, and temperament, especially because some colours and families are scarce. Anyone buying one in Britain should check the current British standard because colour names and show expectations differ from North American practice.
