Blanc de Popielno
The Blanc de Popielno, or Popielno White, is a Polish white rabbit breed developed and maintained around Popielno, a research and breeding center in the Masurian lake district. It is a red-eyed white domestic rabbit selected for farm usefulness, growth, fertility, and adaptability rather than for unusual markings. Compared with many fancy breeds, its importance lies in being a named Polish genetic resource and production breed. Animals are generally medium to large, with a plain white coat that made pelts marketable and a body type suited to meat production.
In human care the Popielno White is most often discussed in the context of small farms, research herds, and conservation of local livestock genetics. Productive does need sensible breeding intervals, roomy nest boxes, and steady feed quality; pushing any meat-type rabbit too hard shortens its useful life. Since red-eyed white rabbits can look alike, identification depends on source and breeding history rather than appearance alone. Keepers interested in the breed should seek documented stock and avoid crossing it casually with New Zealand White or other albino lines if preservation is part of the reason for keeping them.
