Canadian Plush Lop
The Canadian plush lop is a modern, still uncommon domestic rabbit breed or developing breed associated with Canadian fanciers. It is a lop-eared rabbit selected for a short rex-type coat that feels dense and springy rather than the normal rollback fur of most lops. Most lines are small to medium, with a rounded head, dropped ears, and colors ranging from agouti and chestnut to black, chocolate, blue, cream, fawn, broken, or patterned varieties. Because recognition varies, the name can cover rabbits with different pedigrees, but the goal is a plush-coated lop with sound pet and exhibition type.
In homes, the coat usually needs less brushing than long wool, but loose hair still has to be removed during molts and the skin should be handled gently. Rex-type coats can leave the hocks less padded, so clean flooring and dry bedding matter. Lop ears need routine checks for wax, irritation, or poor airflow. Buyers should ask about adult size, dental history, temperament, and whether the line is bred to a written standard, especially when rabbits are advertised as rare.
