Chinchilla (UK)
Chinchilla in the UK refers to the British registry form of the chinchilla-colored domestic rabbit, bred to show a silver-grey agouti coat that recalls chinchilla fur without being related to the chinchilla species. The color depends on banded hairs, dark ticking, and a clear underside pattern rather than a simple grey surface. UK usage may differ from American labels such as Standard Chinchilla, American Chinchilla, or Giant Chinchilla.
Exhibitors need to judge Chinchilla rabbits by both body and the layered coat effect, because flat grey, smutty color, or weak ticking can lose the defining look. The coat is best assessed in clean natural light and at the right age. Owners should provide ordinary rabbit care, but breeders should be careful when crossing chinchilla-colored rabbits with other agouti or shaded lines, since the visual result can become hard to classify.
