Giant Papillon (UK)
The Giant Papillon (UK) is the British name commonly associated with the large butterfly-marked rabbit known in some other systems as the Checkered Giant. It is a full-sized, active, arched breed with a white base and bold colored pattern: butterfly nose mark, eye circles, colored ears, dorsal stripe, and side markings. The UK label matters because registry language can differ even when the visual family is similar.
Giant Papillons need space to move and show their running type, not just a large hutch. Breeding is demanding because pattern, body size, arch, and soundness all have to come together, and marked-to-marked breeding can produce mismarked or lightly marked offspring. The short coat is easy to maintain, but white areas need clean bedding before shows. Buyers should ask whether the line is bred under UK standards or under a Checkered Giant standard elsewhere. These rabbits can be impressive, but they are active large rabbits requiring secure housing and experienced handling.
