Gouwenaar
The Gouwenaar is a rare Dutch rabbit breed associated with Gouda-area fancy breeding and a soft blue-gray or lilac-gray coat impression. It is a color-sensitive breed rather than a giant, lop, or wool rabbit, and it remains far less familiar than mainstream European breeds. Because documentation and recognition can vary outside its home region, the name is most useful when connected to Dutch or continental standards.
Gouwenaar breeding is careful color work. The coat should read clean and even, without drifting into muddy blue, brown, or patchy silvering, while the rabbit keeps a sound moderate body. Housing should be clean, shaded, and dry so the subtle color is not spoiled by stain or harsh light before evaluation. Rare breeds need thoughtful pairing plans, especially where unrelated stock is limited. Buyers should ask for the breeder's registry context and photos of mature animals, since young rabbits may change through molt and the name is easy to misunderstand if treated as just another gray color.
