Harlequin Dutch
The Harlequin Dutch is a Dutch-pattern rabbit carrying harlequin coloration, combining the familiar Dutch white blaze, collar, saddle, and stops with the split or banded color genetics of Harlequin rabbits. Depending on registry context, it may be treated as a variety, project color, or descriptive cross-pattern label rather than a universally recognized stand-alone breed. The point of the name is the meeting of two demanding pattern systems on one small-to-medium fancy rabbit.
Breeding Harlequin Dutch rabbits is challenging because both pattern standards can fight each other. A rabbit may have attractive harlequin color but weak Dutch stops, or crisp Dutch markings with color distribution that does not satisfy harlequin expectations. Clean housing and a short grooming routine are enough for coat care, but show preparation depends heavily on visual evaluation. Buyers should ask whether the rabbits are bred under an accepted standard or as a developing color project. For companion homes, soundness and temperament should take priority over a pattern that may never be perfectly symmetrical.
