Lilac
Lilac is both a rabbit breed name and a color term, which makes the label easy to misunderstand. As a breed, the Lilac is a self-colored rabbit selected for an even pinkish dove-gray or lavender-gray coat, created from dilute chocolate genetics rather than from a purple hue. As a color variety, lilac can also appear in many other breeds, so a lilac-colored rabbit is not automatically a Lilac breed rabbit.
Breeders working with Lilacs pay close attention to shade, undercolor, eye color, and the absence of rusty or bluish cast. The short coat is straightforward to maintain, but it shows molt lines and sun fading, so clean indoor or shaded housing helps preserve color before shows. For buyers, type and background matter as much as the coat. A rabbit listed as lilac may be a purebred Lilac, a Havana or Mini Rex in lilac variety, or a mixed rabbit with dilute chocolate coloring.
