Lionhead (US)
The Lionhead in United States registry use is an ARBA-recognized small breed with a defined mane and a narrower set of showable varieties than the pet market often suggests. United States exhibitors focus on a compact body, upright ears, bold head, and mane wool that frames the face without turning the whole rabbit into a long-coated breed. Pet Lionheads may appear in many more colors and markings than are accepted for show.
American breeders often make separate decisions about show prospects and companion placements. A rabbit with a sweet temperament and attractive coat may still be nonshowable if its color is not accepted, its mane is too weak, or its ears and body drift outside type. Grooming should begin young because mats form where the mane rubs under the chin or behind the ears. Buyers should ask whether the rabbit is being sold as show, brood, or pet quality.
