Meissner Lop
The Meissner Lop is a rare lop breed from Germany, associated with Meissen and recognized in British rare-variety circles. It combines lop ears with a silvered coat, giving it a different purpose from plain-colored French Lops, Mini Lops, or dwarf lops. The breed is often described as somewhat more refined than the French Lop while still clearly belonging to the larger lop family.
Practical breeding requires attention to both features that define the breed. The ears and crown need correct lop carriage, while the coat should develop attractive silvering without becoming patchy or dull. Because the breed is uncommon, preserving healthy breeding stock may matter more than producing large numbers quickly. Housing should fit a larger rabbit, with flooring that protects hocks and enough room for relaxed movement. Buyers should verify the line rather than assuming any silvered lop is a Meissner Lop.
