Miniature Papillon
Miniature Papillon is a small spotted-rabbit label tied to the papillon or butterfly-marking tradition. The name points to patterned rabbits with a butterfly nose marking, cheek spots, body spots, and a dorsal line or balanced markings, depending on the standard being followed. It should not be treated as interchangeable with every broken or spotted pet rabbit, since true papillon-style breeding is about placement as well as color.
Breeders working with miniature papillon-type rabbits spend much of their effort sorting markings. A rabbit may have good size and temperament but still fall short if the nose butterfly is broken, the body spots run together, or the spine marking is weak. Pet homes can enjoy those imperfectly marked rabbits without concern, but breeding programs need enough stock to avoid selecting only for markings while losing sound bodies. Buyers should ask which country or club standard the breeder means by Miniature Papillon.
