Self-Blue
Self-blue is a color term for a solid dilute blue rabbit, not a breed. In rabbit color language, self means the same basic color is carried over the body rather than being patterned with agouti bands, tan markings, or white spotting. Blue usually describes a slate or blue-gray dilution of black, with the desired shade and eye color depending on the breed standard.
The care of a self-blue rabbit depends entirely on the breed behind the color. A self-blue Netherland Dwarf, Beveren, Rex, or lop will differ in size, coat texture, grooming, and temperament. Breeders evaluate evenness, undercolor, stray white hairs, rusty cast, and matching toenails where relevant, but they also have to keep type. Buyers should be wary of ads that use self-blue as though it predicts adult weight or personality. It only tells part of the coat-color story.
