Sitka
Sitka is a historic rabbit name most usefully linked with black Beveren history in North America. Accounts of Beveren development note that a black breed already present in America, called Sitka, became known as the Black Beveren. That makes Sitka important as a historical label, but it does not mean every black large rabbit or every Black Beveren should be casually renamed Sitka today.
When the name appears, the context should be Beveren ancestry, fur breeding, and early twentieth-century breed consolidation. A serious keeper would look for the Beveren-style large body, dense glossy coat, and source history rather than relying on black color alone. For modern buyers, Sitka is likely to be a history clue or rare label, not a common marketplace breed. Care should follow the rabbit's actual size and coat, with attention to space, sound feet, and clean fur.
