Standard Rex
The Standard Rex is the full-sized version of the Rex rabbit, famous for a short plush coat caused by guard hairs and undercoat that sit at nearly the same length. That structure gives the fur a velvet feel and makes color appear unusually even across the body. Standard Rex rabbits are larger and more substantial than Mini Rex, with a commercial outline and a long history in both exhibition and fur-oriented breeding.
Rex coats are low-shed compared with some dense breeds, but they still need clean bedding because thin or damp flooring can irritate hocks. Owners should handle the coat gently rather than over-brushing the texture flat. Breeders select for fur density, spring, body depth, and color clarity across many accepted varieties, while pet buyers should look past the appealing coat and check temperament, dental health, and whether the rabbit has enough space for its size.
