Teddy Lop
The Teddy lop, often called German Teddy lop or Teddywidder in European circles, is a small lop-eared rabbit with a long, woolly coat. It was developed from compact lop and long-haired dwarf stock, so it resembles a miniature plush lop rather than a standard Angora. The head is rounded, the ears hang down the sides of the face, and the coat can be very full over the body and cheeks. Color names vary with the registry or breeder group, but black, blue, agouti, chestnut, chinchilla, harlequin, broken patterns, and red-eyed white or albino are all seen in pet lines.
Keeping a Teddy lop is mostly about managing coat and body condition. Wool can pack around the underside, tail, and ear bases, so regular grooming is needed long before mats become visible. Lopped ears should be checked for wax, odor, or scratching because reduced airflow can make ear problems harder to spot. These rabbits do best in cool, dry housing with clean litter areas and enough room to hop without dragging the coat through damp bedding. Breeders selecting for show or pets should avoid exaggerating small size, heavy ear carriage, or coat density at the expense of teeth, breathing, and easy movement.
