Vienna Coloured
Vienna coloured is a regional label for colored rabbits in the Vienna family, a group of medium to large European rabbits that traces to Austrian and central European stock. It is related to better-known Vienna types such as Blue Vienna and White Vienna, but the colored designation may include self or agouti shades rather than the blue-eyed white form. These rabbits are generally broad, deep-bodied, and well muscled, with upright ears and a dense rollback coat. Depending on the country or club, colors such as black, blue, agouti, chestnut, chinchilla, chocolate, cream, fawn, and harlequin may be handled as separate varieties or under a wider colored Vienna category.
Vienna coloured rabbits are kept for exhibition, homestead meat use, and as large companion rabbits where their size can be accommodated. They need sturdy housing, good ventilation, and flooring that keeps the coat clean while supporting heavier bodies. Feeding should prevent both poor growth and excess fat, since show and breeding animals are judged on firm flesh as well as color and type. Grooming is usually simple, with more brushing during molt. Buyers should clarify which Vienna standard the breeder follows, because a rabbit sold as colored Vienna in one registry may be classified differently elsewhere.
